Despite the hard social and economic conditions, the scientific activities in the field of physics has made a noticeable progress during the last years. One can ascertain this fact by noting the number of papers published in international peer reviewed journals and the increasing number of PhD theses defended inside our national triangle. It is also worth mentioning that various Cameroonian physicists are doing excellent jobs in universities and research centres abroad.
This important scientific activity from the Cameroonian physicists in Cameroon or abroad merits a national structure inside which Cameroonian physicists can talk physics in general and physics related to development issues in Cameroon in particular.
It is in this line that since the year 2005, some Cameroonian physicists engaged themselves in new exchanges with the goal of launching the Cameroon Physical Society (CPS). This has led to the call of the launching meeting of November 16, 2006. The call, addressed to more than 50 physicists working in Cameroon, gathered only 09 physicists (See the list of the founding members of CSP below). The meeting was the place to draft the CSP by-laws, to define the 2007 plan of action and the election of the members of the executive bureau of SCP.
Today, the actions taken successfully by the leaders of CPS are the following:
1
Official recognition of CPS and a bank account has been opened
2
Creation of the website of the society.
3
Permanent action through the sensibilisation of potential members.
I would like to express my thanks to all the members of the executive bureau who stand ahead the creation of CSP.
Two important stages are still awaiting us for the year 2007:
1
The final construction and animation of our website
2
The organization of the congress scheduled at December 2007 with two main topics: State of physics in Cameroon and the listing of Cameroonian development problems needing solutions from physics.

Such activities cannot be organized without means. It is our view that CSP must first count on its internal resources before eventually looking for funds from national and international partners. This is particularly true for the first years of the society since no partner will recourse us without seeing a good and rich report of activities already carried out.
This is why, as for other societies of the type, the professional members of CSP are entitled to pay annual fees of 50.000 FCFA (about 75 euros) while students members must pay 10.000 FCFA (about 15 euros). Today more than 20 members have agreed to be part of CSP and there is no doubt that more will come in the next months. The contribution is to help us
1
Contribute to the organization of physics in Cameroon for the good of youth through various mechanisms: prizes, schools, vulgarization, etc.

2
Organize ourselves for mutual exchanges (it is curious that most of the time, Cameroonian physicists meet abroad, particularly at ICTP).

3
Address in a coherent manner to other organizations that want to develop physics in developing countries. I am thinking particularly to the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics and the Academy for the Developing World (TWAS) who have already done a marvelous job for the Cameroonian  physicists. Iindeed, the noticeable progress by the Cameroon physicists in the recent years is mainly due to these organization at at least 80%..

Having benefited a lot from such organizations and various others around the World, we will be found guilty if we refuse to organize ourselves.
To conclude, I invite all the potential members to surmount our well known socio-economic constraints and join the first members of CSP so that we contribute together to the ideal of CPS for the development of Cameroon and the shining of physics in Cameroon.
Paul Woafo, President of CPS.
